Gordon Browns Mantra

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Wednesday, 31. Jan, 2007 - 09:54:24 pm

Following the familiar triple-repetitive noun, Education, Education, Education, made famous by Blair before he became PM, Gordon Brown today has followed suit.

The Brown Mantra will be Excellence, Excellence, Excellence.

IT doesn't have the same direct ring to it but I guess as it's only education he's talking about, it'll have to do.

The use of repetition is a familiar play on words used by many a politician. It's been handed down from political scriptwriters over the decades. You only have to look at Churchill for examples who was full of them....i.e. "We will fight them on the beaches, we will fight them..."

You can get combinations of double repetitive nouns used in phrases like...
"tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime."

And you begin to see a picture. Yes they are all at it. Most people who seek power use the technique. Tried it at a job interview once and it works.

It's actually a mind-control ploy used by magicians, (watch Derren Brown) politicians, (Blairs full of them) top salespeople etc to associate certain words with people who said them and a desired state of mind.

It's a case of cutting through the crap these people say to look at what they are really getting at.

Staying on until 18 in FE

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Wednesday, 31. Jan, 2007 - 09:40:58 am

I wonder what young people think of this latest wheeze by the government?

It would have been nice to ask some of them, don't you think - at least to seek their views, but no. If you're under 18, nobody listens, it's all do as I say.

From the FE teaching point of view, it could be quite horrendus as 16-18s will be forced into colleges to do anything in order to be paid an allowance.
I'm dreading it.

Gordon Brown is making a speech today about his support for the scheme, which I can see why he want to do it - get 250,000 who have no qualifications - to get some and some training along the way.

There will always be the unteachable and the ones who would never fit in. They will just walk anyway after the first day in an enforced class.

FE stands for Fecking Everything where teachers in further education are expected to do anything the government wants, what the Leeching LSC want, what the CBI say, what the latest opinion polls say, what the Tory front bench say were not doing.

Further Education is everyone's kicking dog.

Manchester wins SuperCasino

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 30. Jan, 2007 - 12:21:08 pm

Manchester Wins!!!!!

Oh No, I thought they said BlackPool and the Dome were the main contenders !

Well wherever it is, 1200 slot machines don't appeal much to me.

Oceans 11 comes to the Narth.

Two men wearing long macs and flat caps, smoking roll-ups. Each has a whippet. It's grey, cold and drizzling and both are wearing Ray Bans.
Brad Pitt: "hey up mate were goin tae rob that there casino tha knows"
George Clooney: "Nay lad, aya shoor, tha'll ne'r pull off a jobbie that big."

And Brad and George never did go to the SuperCasino in Manchester as they got lost on the M62.

Windows Vista Launch

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 30. Jan, 2007 - 09:18:43 am

RANT OF THE WEEK

Bill's wonderful new version of Windows hits the high street today with the claim of being the, quote, "best software since sliced bread."
vista
How come Microsoft have no design people and always seem to follow the lead - design wise - set by Steve Jobs at Apple. Apple are far more innovative and inventive than Microsoft.

All Microsoft do is buy up other peoples software, put them out of business and then re-badge it, remember, they didn't even write their first program, MS-DOS, buying it form somewhere else before flogging it on to IBM. Then they cobble it all together with a bit of hookey code that any 13-year old hacker can crack.

So now we have to chcuk out all our current PCs just because Bill says so. Well Bill, sod off. My PC is working fine thanks. I can do all I need with what Ive got.

I actually think with the growth of Linux, Open Source software, Moodles etc, the market share Microsoft have enjoyed for so long is slowly coming to an end. People have cottoned on to the fact that Gates, backed by the US government, and Microsoft, are a monopoly and the public want something cheaper, more-reliable and more importantly, more autonomy without being forced to buy and use Microsoft all the time.

Windows - there is an alternative.

Super Casino - the winner is...

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 30. Jan, 2007 - 08:54:59 am

So todays the day we get our first Super casino.
Wherever it is it sounds awful.

casino

1200 slot machines. Place the size of a football pitch. Radio 4 said it would be like walking into Tescos...aaaarrgghh I hate Tescos.

Can't we be a bit more original than that?

Anyone who has been to Las Vegas will have seen the free entertainment and all the other things like poker, blackjack and the shows, free food. What are we getting 1200 slot machines shoved together in a shed. Vegas has some style at least - although it is manufactured.

Oceans 11 its not going to be.

Hilary in Iowa

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 29. Jan, 2007 - 02:45:49 pm

hills

Opinion Polls have Hilary Clinton at 41% to Barack Obama's 17% in Iowa. Although its a long time off the election - some 23 months, the Democrats are already digging in for a long campaign.

BBD hopes that Hills goes on the attack and gets the nomination as Democratic Party candidate sometime in 2008.

Could you imagine Cherie Blair running for PM ? Gawd help us all.

Big Brother - the Conclusion

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 29. Jan, 2007 - 08:59:58 am

big broth

After getting Shilpa and Jermaine as front runners on Saturday correct, BBD guessed Shilpa would take the prize with 65% of the vote. In the end she won with 63%, so pretty close.

Shilpa 63% :D
Jermaine 37% (according to BB stats) Though I can't see that no one would have voted for any of the others.:D

For me the show showed the British up in a pretty poor light. The Brits were left looking like stupid,loud-mouth gobshite bullies with no talent. The winner, Shilpa, looked regal and was a worthy winner of what was after all - a game show. Good luck to Shilpa in the future, I'm sure we haven't heard the last from her.

Jermaine too came across as a really genuine type of person, loved his wit and wisdom gems and it was so good to see sense and tolerance win the day over the antics of SOME of the idiot British contingent.

I warmed to Dirk more as the show went on. He was a more withdrawn type of guy, but its was still fun to watch him squirm when the tasks were announced.
Of the others, I warmed to Cleo who seemed a little sad on the inside, yet always presented herself as the "actress" as if she was permanently on stage.

I enjoyed Leo until he left, Ian from Steps, Ken Russell and who can forget Donny. Good on him for legging it over the wall son. I wouldn't have been sub-serviant to ANY of the Goody clan.

And then there were the dregs. >:-[The Goody Lot.>:-[ The awful Jackie, her loud-mouth, gobby bully of a daughter, >:XX and dim witted boyfriend. :-/ But the ones who really let me down were Danielle and Jo.:( They joined in the bullying and picking on Shilpa. Do these type of people reflect what kind of a nation we British have become? If so, the feck me, were in trouble.

The last word on CBB goes to Shilpa Shetti who was professional, reserved and a worthy winner, right from the off and through to the end. Well done Shilpa. XXXX

Prison Crisis - solved

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Saturday, 27. Jan, 2007 - 03:41:37 pm

alcatraz-real
Hey, John Reid, why not let all our criminal scumbags take the trip of a lifetime, to stay in the most famous, empty nick of all, good, ole, Alcatraz.

Why not approach the yanks and ship out all the human scum that prey on innocent people, the paedo's, murderers, rapists and terrorists and send them there - it could be cheaper than them being catered for here with the dollar being so weak. And they have all those nice capital punishment routines there too that would just do for the scum we need to rid ourselves of should they escape.

guantanamo

Or there's this nice little place down in Cuba. Guests are supplied with nice, bright, shiny uniforms, enforced head-shaving and abuse, they can take lots of walks in the open air surrounded by rabid guard dogs and wall-to-wall chainlink fencing just like in an animal pen.

Think about it Johnnie!

Have the Prison Service bothered to check whether the Scots have any prison spaces? I reckon there are loads as our local nick has English tutor support and staff have said how quiet it is.

It's been a long week here. Thank God I can finish in a few hours time at 4.30.
last teaching slot Friday 2.30 - 4.15.
Theyll all be pissed, as usual having spent over an hour in the pub.

Think I'll put a film on, or at least part of it.

Now what have I got...

Godfather II....mmmm
Star Wars IV A new Hope......maybe

Ah yes Star Wars it is. If anyone asks its the students are looking at a comparison between the Obi Wan Kenobi character and his role in a post modernist society.

obiwan

Total bollocks but they'll love the film.

Gotta go, DVD under arm. Wonder how many turn up?

Senate vote down the President

The US Senate has voted 12 - 9 against sending 22,000 more troops to Iraq. Good.
Perhaps the Bush family will make up the numbers needed, there seems to be enough of them wanting a scrap.

Send Jeb 'n George W. Jnr out there to kick some butt. I'm sure they'd fit right in being a couple of redneck cowboys.

TESCOs - too big?

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 23. Jan, 2007 - 09:00:40 am

The Government are looking into the way the main four supermarkets are dominating shopping in Britain who altogether account for 75% of the things we buy.
Tescos for example account for every £1 in £3 we spend.
Tescos announced yesterday thet they are going into housebuilding next and plan to compete with housebuilders like Bovis. Might be a good thing as you don't see any competition on houses.

What do You think, are Tescos TOO BIG these days?

Channel 4 Board meet over CBB

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 22. Jan, 2007 - 05:02:25 pm

The Channel 4 Board meet this afternoon and the main agenda item will undoubtedly be last weeks antics of certain "celeb" housemates.

After much sobbing and outpourings from Jade Goody over the weekend, who always seems to come up smelling of roses with her supposed 6-figure sum from a well known shite newspaper for a tell-all, she still doesnt cut much wth me.

Close the house down C4.

Hilary Clinton for President

BillyBlogginsDonkey is backing Hilary Clinton all the way to the White House in 2008.
hills
We all think that Hilary would make a brilliant president, ambassador and peace maker for the world over. I do worry though about her relationship with the 'Military Complex' and Rich industrialists that dominate US politics. Just how would the gung-ho, redneck, right-wing, bible-thumping people in the military get on with Hills?

As much as I disliked Thatcher, she was, without doubt, the right person in the right place at the right time. You may have disagreed with the way she radically ran things but without her domineering style, where would we have been after 1979?

Good luck to Hilary and BBD backs you all the way the the Big Hoouse!

Big Brother implodes

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Friday, 19. Jan, 2007 - 08:55:27 am

big broth

It's all going downhill in BB and at C4. Good, Danielle and Jade have both lost expensive contracts and sponsors and so have Channel 4. Superb. I added my disgust at the bullying of Shilpa to the 33 thousand others. Just did a search on OFCOM and filled in the form. Easy enough.

The loss of the Carphone Warehouse contract was a bit unexpected for C4 but hey, that's life, you reap as you sow, so get over it Channel 4. If you put this sort of crap on TV and it all goes wrong, the fingers point at the broadcaster.

Hopefully the bosses at C4, a publicly-funded service apparently, (I didnt know that until I watch C4 news last night) will now be brought to account by OFCOM. Surely 35,000 complaints so far is testimony to what was certainly bullying in my view and after last nights escalated name calling of Shilpa, racism.

Sort it out Channel 4.

Kids Parties

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Friday, 19. Jan, 2007 - 08:41:09 am

How daft has this ritual become. Have a party by all means but whats with the £10 goody bags for every guest? Kids parties are causing social crisis in America where one-upmanship family to family is causing bancruptsy in some cases. One example quoted on Radio 4 this morning mentioned a one-year olds party with 60 guests in Tuxedos and evening ball gowns arriving in stretch limos. Bonkers isnt it? Costs a silly fortune for some.

What happened to a bowl of jelly and ice cream and a bag of crisps and a quick round of pass the parcel and twister?
