The school lottery game

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Wednesday, 28. Feb, 2007 - 08:46:59 am

The education authority in Brighton have announced that places will be up for grabs by the winning lottery ticket holders.

Whay ever happened to having to live in the local catchment area to qualify for a place ?

And if Blairs education reforms have improved ALL schools so much - why is there a need for a short-straws lottery?
Aren't all schools - "Brilliant"?

Yet another Labour shambles.

mobile phones

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 27. Feb, 2007 - 09:10:53 am

The penalty goes up today if you are caught with a mobile stuck in your ear by the police.
trucker
£60 plus 3 points. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6399407.stm

Is it dangerous to drive with one of these clamped to your ear?

Whilst at the same time, smoking a fag, looking at a map, shouting at the kids in the back, drinking coffee, eating a sandwich, listening to music, avoiding people who cut you up, watching the speedo, the Sat Nav, the driver behind you and in front, road signs, Gatso's etc. No, it's probably no worse really.

There are just so many distractions on the road. I think I'll take the bus.

Cameron

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 27. Feb, 2007 - 08:56:01 am

I wonder what kind of leader will Dave be when he eventually takes over the reigns sometime in 2009.
ncameron220

The Tories now have a lead of 11 points over Labour and it seems to matter little to Jo Public who Labour has as leader. Whether its dour Gordon, who really has been spited by Blair, as he has stayed far too long in the post and seen party support slip away at his expense, or Prescott, Ready, Milliband, Alan (postman Pat)Johnson etc.

blair

Tony, its time to go soon mate. March, April, May then leadership election time. Then well, expect teary bye-byes in Downing Street with Cherie and the kids and then off on your lecture tour in the States.

I liked Blair at the start. He seemed honest enough, and trustworthy around the time Diana died, but after that it all went downhill.
I suppose his legacy will be three election victories in 10 years, spin doctoring, slick presentation style, sweaty under pressure, The dodgy dossier, the Iraq War and Education, Education, Education - which hasn't really materialised yet with the Academies, in fact the results from these have been fairly poor.

Come on Tony, do the decent thing and announce a date. You have had your innings. Give Gordon the bat and ball now, it's his go.

Time To Go.

Football Managers

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 26. Feb, 2007 - 08:29:12 pm

Rant of the Week

fergiemourinhoGY9wenger

For a long time I have been going to do a ROTW on Football in general. Sunday's shenanighins at the Carling Cup Final between Arsehols and moneybags Chelsea incensed me.

Once upon a time there was football. Two teams, a ball and 50,000 spectators cheering on their respective team to win. Then came the 60s, the dropping of the maximum wage and players could earn what clubs were daft enough to pay. It all went daft from then on.

Players saw their salaries rise from peanuts to a hundred thousand poinds a week in some cases. It all went to their heads, they couldnt handle it mostly and players were worshopped as idols, as soccer became the new religion.

What really narks me though is how obsessed we as a nation have all become by it - particularly the Managers. These guys are supposed to take a lead, show leadership and good example. What do we get from the Managers in the Premiership?

Swearing and bawling at referees,
Arguing and moaning when a decision isn't the one they want,
Effing this and that. Fighting and brawling on the touchline.
Just because they are losing.

How pathetic the likes of these so called "managers" and "leaders" really are.

Fergusson old purple nose could whinge for Scotland.
Mourhino - "the chosen one" this guy is nicknamed - could sulk for Europe.
Wenger, aka, "the professor", looks like a nerd, is a nerd and another bad loser,
Warnock, just a loud mouth ranting tosspot, who would do anything to win a match,
Allardyce, the bung-meister and big-gob.

The list goes on and on throughout the divisions.

The once "beautiful game" has become all about cash, tv rights and win at all costs and feck everyone else. These people I blame the most - the Managers. The greedy, fecking sods I wouldn't pay to pish over if they were on fire.

I sincerely hope that the Sky money is pulled out soon. Lets see what would happen then. Lets see how they would cope on £20,000 a year and no Rolls Royce.

Hugh Grant

Come on Hugh. With your track record. Do you really expect us to believe that line?

We all remember the Divine Brown story.

GRANT: "help me officer, this weirdo has cuffed me, and wants to have sex with me!"
Officer Dibble: "Come along now Mr Grant now, theres a good gentleman, tell us where the keys are."
Grant: "Are you calling me a pervert Officer?"
Dibble: "Whatever you do in your own house is your business Mr Grant."

Dibble: (Straight to camera) "Some people will do anything to get in the papers and promote their latest film."

And that's a story from daily life in Hollywood, Tinseltown or never-neverland, whichever you prefer.

Conspiracy theories

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 26. Feb, 2007 - 11:46:13 am

Watched the David Kelly programme last night on BBC2 and was more convinced that at the end of the programme of a cover-up. The coroner had no idea how many paracetemol tablets Dr kelly had taken, and that the wound on his wrist would not have normally led to death despite an artery being severed.

All very fishy indeed.

When you get MPs and a Barrister also convinced that there is a cover-up, its time to start worrying. Kelly did have his enemies, least of all our own Government and a number of questiones remained unanswered.

This first people to find Dr kelly's body reported he was slumped up against a tree.
The inspector who was next to see the body was with its for 30 mins.
The paramedics reported seeing the body stretched out away from the tree.
Little blood was discovered at the scene.
Kelly did suffer from heart disease and the paracetemol and gash to his wrist could have contributed to his death - and he had been under considerable pressure, but only an hour before he sent e-mails to people saying he would be seeing them in Baghdad soon.

Strange.

Derren Brown

derrenbrown_203x152

Having watched a show of his at Christmas, and also the very scary one where the guy becomes part of a video game, slaying zombies, Ive been on YouTube watching more of the phenomenon that is Derren Brown.

The scary video game one still haunts me. I do fear for peoples states of mind who take part in this kindof stuff. He also does Russian Roulette and subliminal "mind control" something I would love to know more about. I think it could come in handy for controlling naughty kids in class.

Browns style and mixture of skills does intrigue me. What do you think viewers. Didnt he spend time in prison a few years ago?

Pendolino trains

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Saturday, 24. Feb, 2007 - 02:31:31 pm

I was sad to hear this morning about the train de-railment in Cumbria as it was on a line that I use quite a bit for work and leisure.

390002test

It looks as if the Pendolino trains with their hi-tech design has had an impact in saving many passengers from injury. The old trains causing injury to people being flung through windows. This has to be real progress and a brilliant example of how design can help us get better at the things we do, which is to learn from our experiences.

Best wishes and swift recovery to the families caught up in this unfortunate accident and thanks to Mr Branson (you know my views on him) for providing decent, safe rolling stock.

Bratz are to blame

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Thursday, 22. Feb, 2007 - 09:57:16 am

bratz
According to the Guardians G2 this morning, Bratz, the latest marketing ploy aimed at 7 - 11 year old girls are wholly responsible for corrupting the youth of a nation.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,2018371,00.html

So I guess that Sindy and Barbie are to blame for the adult populations slide into Soddom too. It all makes sense. Destroy the worlds doll population and all human suffering will cease.
Ken and Action man have a lot to answer for too - they probably started Vietnam, the Gulf War and look set to take a pop at Iran.
cabbage

I was always worried about those Cabbage Patch kids too. probably started the whole drugs scene, terrorism, hoodies and mugging old ladies. No wonder society is in the state its in.

Troops home.....excellent news

Whats next I wonder...an actual date for the leadership election?

Give our Gordon a go will you Tone, youve had your go now. Off you trot.

Our Boys start to come home

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Wednesday, 21. Feb, 2007 - 03:58:59 pm

At last and as one of the final acts of his "presidency", Our beloved dictator Tony Blair has agreed that the army will be scaled back in Iraq, and all our boys will be home by Christmas 2008.

Wonderful, Wonderful news.

They should have got out after they caught Saddam IMHO, but now the withdrawal has been announced, it will be good to have all our wonderful boys home safe and well with their families. Keep safe boys and thank you for all you have done.

War on Iran

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Tuesday, 20. Feb, 2007 - 06:39:46 pm

According to the BBC, which has somehow managed to find the entire war plan for their next "campaign" the Americans look to scale up their presence in Iraq, as a prelude to invading Iran.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/6376639.stm

The build up of forces in the Persian Gulf looks to be getting quite serious by the day with a large battle group afloat off the coast.

If it all kicks off again, both Bush and Blair should be impeached for war crimes.

Youth Gun Culture

by billyblogginsdonkey @ Monday, 19. Feb, 2007 - 10:20:43 am

In a week that has seen young people shot or killed in our inner cities, reach double figures, the Prime Minister decided over the weekend that the age limit for gun crime be lowered to 17 from the present 21.

Its not difficult to understand why kids are attracted to guns as a status symbol. But what about supply of these weapons, and where do children in their early teens get hold of weapons from? The suppliers of these weapons (probably adults, criminals and drug dealing scumbags)are just as culpable if not more so, and should also be given long, very long custodial sentences for corrupting our kids.

Gang culture isn't new, there have been gangs hanging around our streets for generations, and centruries. There has always been inter-gang rivalry, territorial protection and turf wars. The quick to act pulling of a weapon however and a willingness to use it without fear is newer, especially when we still have a largely unarmed police force.

I'm not sure that the growth in gun crime follows the social trends of rap / hip-hop music and violent culture, growing violence in films, violent shoot-em-up computer games, the degradation of women and homosexuals by certain cultures, but all of these MAY have had a COMBINED effect as triggers to such behaviour.

We need to look at the social causes of why kids are taking up weapons, eliminate the sources and supply routes and that way may be able to stem the flow.
