Good show again last night with Natalie getting the boot in the end. I don't suppose you can sell Art that easily and thats why Sir Alan picked it. A big convincing job to do to sell some of the stuff on show last night, although I quite liked the "Lips" and the "Horses" and would have had them myself if they were a bit cheaper, Jaysus they were only photographs with a bit of Photoshop air-brushing!

Story about working conditions in today's Guardian Education.

Lecturers are poised for strike action as the Principal Colin Hindmarch is about to lay off 205 staff at the college which recently received a satisfactory report from OFSTED.

Hindmarch is about to offer all of the staff a "New " contact that's straight from some Victorian School.

Get a load of this teachers...

A 56 Hour working week
A pay cut of £10,000
Maximum Salaries for "tutors" of £23,000 after qualification and years of experience.
A Timetable of 37 hours contact whcih could be teaching classes between 8 am and 10pm and between 8 am and 2pm on Saturdays.

For those reading this who work in FE, we all know about the changes that have been brought about by Fat Cat ruthless Pricipals with way too much power over the past decade and a half. Soaps have got more violent. Look at Coronation Street. In ONE STREET alone there have been millions of murders, rapes and incest cases since the show started. If this is reflective of society then they should be swicthed off. NOW...ARRGGHHH ITS AWFUL!

Eastenders - how many murders per year in a little square in the East End. The show even started with a murder - Nasty Nick, remember ?

Sad day yesterday when it was announced that the former leader of the USSR, Boris 'grabs yer bum' Yeltsin had passed away aged 76.

He was quite a character was Boris, not loved by everyone but was responsible after Gorbachev for the move away from Communism to a break-up of the USSR and more towards capitalism.

RIP Big Boris. We will miss you lots.

If Jesus came back today in 21st century America to preach love and peace, would he have to carry a gun?

No, he wouldn't. But the National Rifle Association would say, "hell yes, he would need to if he came to America today to protect himself."

For a country that prides itself on being, "the land of the free", and "god-fearing christians", it's rather worrying that anyone including teenagers can buy guns by the shed load. With the express intention of doing what with them? Drooling over who's got the biggest barrel? Hunting? Lets see - er, hunting Bufalo and mountain cats maybe, er no theyre all dead. Well, lets see, how about wild boar or deer, no all dead. What's left, Lions, tigers, wolves? No none left, all shot. Elephant...(OK Billy...thats enough now...Ed)

With 30,000 gun-related deaths a year in America compared to single figures in other countries, America needs to seriously look at its gun laws. The National Rifle Association, and its preaching of a "right to bear arms" is a throwback to the days of the "wild" west, Buffalo hunters, Cowboys and Indians and Jesse James. Why did the Bush Government let the laws on the purchase of Automatic weapons lapse?

In the US you can now buy assault weapons that only the Special Services have in the UK. Killing machines that spit 500 rounds per minute. Would certainly be good for hunting now wouldnt they. Blast your elephant to kingdom come. It would be a bit tough to eat though and you would probably die from lead poisoning.

From this weeks killing of 32 people at Virginia Tech, and again todays report of a NASA employee shooting another employee over an argument at work, it just doesnt get any better in gun-toting America does it.

BBD says outlaw the NRA, give up guns and stop the killing of innocents.

Theres an awful story in today's Guardian about a Grandmother and her three daughters who forced their toddlers to fight each other whilst video filming them. What a set of sick people these really are. What kind of "education" did they think they were giving these children?
They should have got a sentence each. It's child abuse isnt it? Certainly another example of bad, awful parenting, no morals and couldn't care less attitudes. Forcing 2 and 3 year olds to hit and kick each other on the face and while they were on the ground. Calling a little 2 year old boy a "faggot" and a "wimp" for not hitting his sister. Appalling absolutely appalling.

Happy to hear that the children have been taken away from them to be brought up by relatives. I would have thought Social Services should have stepped in to dictate who they were to be brought up by.

Nothing wrong with children, the parents are usually the ones to blame. You have to worry about what goes on behind closed doors in some homes.

Just reading the story about the 11 year old boy, Ben Vodden in the Guardian who was verbally bullied at school and took his own life because of it.

I find bullying totally abhorrent in all its forms and the bullies that do it among the lowest form of life on the planet. I have always challenged any bullies and stamped it out in my classes. It usually starts as ribbing, then escalates to name-calling and then personal insults. Then it gets worse. The victim facing beatings, violence. The bullies just don't know when to give up and if left unchallenged continue in their foul deeds making the victims life one of misery.

If you were ever bullied at school you will know what I mean. Bullying has to be nipped in the bud early. The only way to stop it, from my experience is to challenge the bully on a one-to-one basis early on. Get the bully on their own, isolate them from the group they hang around with and confront them directly.

Ask them why they are aiming thier bile at them and why the name calling. Look in their eyes the whole time - directly. Be positive. Be strong.

Iv'e even experienced bullying at work certainly in meetings. Iv'e always confronted the bully with the same method. It works. Try not to lose your rag. Stay calm but strong and positive. Look directly at them in the eyes. Be cool. They cannot maintain eye contact but you can. You're strong, you're a tiger. Your rage against the bully is so strong that just looking at them, your stance and power in your eyes will show them you are not scared by them. Make it so that at the end of the meeting, they the bully, walk away and not you. You've won then.

Don't stand for Bullying. The sad case of young Ben Vodden who hung himself because of bullying is a very sad case and our condolences go out to his family. What a loss, a sad case but one that continues in life. All bullies are really cowards.

Dad's Army, which was first screened nearly 40 years ago looks set for a new outing on the West End stage and will star Leslie 'Dirty Den' Grantham in the role of Private Walker (the spivy one) and Peter Martin from The Royle Family and Emmerdale, as Captain Mainwaring.

The show will be a mashup of a number of the more famous episodes off the TV and of two shows that were never screened. If you were brought up in the late 60's and 70s like me with just three channels (it's all we had then - no Sky or even channel 4) it was compulsive saturday night viewing with millions watching.

The re-runs on UK Gold are still watched by thousands now and are just as fresh today as they were over thirty years ago since the classic TV show came to a halt.

Bernard and his favourite bird - Naomi

Remember the Bird Flu incident earlier this year where 'Bootiful' Sir Bernard Matthews was importing infected turkey meat product with the H5N1 brid flu strain?
If you recall, Matthews processed his turkey meat bits over in Hungary before re-importing it to customers in the UK. The Health authorities could'nt say for certain that Matthews was responsible. We all know he was because he didn't even own up to the Hungary plant until the newspapers dug deeper.
There have been a number of bad practices in public health terms but they couldnt pin the Bird Flu outbreak on him.

Instead, fat cat Matthews has come up trumps again and is set to gain a whopping £589,356.89 in compensation for his own healthy birds that were compulsorily killed, as required by the Animal Health Act 1981.

He always comes up smelling of roses doesnt he?

And the Turkey Twizzlers - remember them ? That load of old crap that was served up to the nations youth by the bucket load. Yes, they're still there in schools. Renamed as Organic free Range Turkey bites. Same shit, same formula, imported from Poland, mechanically recovered into different shapes and given a different title. Just like Matthews really.
